The Leap
25 x 25” Acrylic on canvas. Framed in solid wood.
“Leap” is all about the moment before doing something big and new and scary. For me, the first thing that comes to mind in that category is coming out. The first few times I said the words “I’m gay” out loud were terrifying and precarious and my face felt hot and my hands were cold and I was shaking all over. It was a Herculean effort, but there was also this sense of excitement because I could feel that the life I wanted was on the other side of those words. There was danger, but also exhilaration and the feeling that I was being swept up in something that I couldn’t quite control but that I wanted to be a part of. It’s like the first time you muster the courage to jump off the high dive as a kid; you’re so scared to do it but you also really want to have done it. Once you’ve done it the first time, there’s this big rush of relief and pride (and maybe some tears), and the next time is a little bit easier.

FAQS
//
Can I bid if I don’t intend to purchase? No. Each bid you make is a binding contract to buy the item if you win. Please see my Terms of Service for more information.
Can I retract a bid? You can only retract a bid under specific circumstances. For example, if you meant to bid $100.00 but accidentally bid $10,000, you can retract the bid. Even then, you need to bid the amount you originally intended immediately. Never use bid retraction to manipulate the bidding process. Contact joe@josephshook.com if you need to retract a bid.
Will my name and bid amounts remain anonymous during the auction? Your bid amount will display, but your name will remain anonymous. Only myself and my internal team will have access to your details once a bid is submitted.
