Summer Deferred
30 x 40” Acrylic on canvas. Framed in solid wood.
This title piece is the first piece I made for the Summer Deferred collection. The seed of an idea came to me while riding the train home over a year ago, and I started this piece in the summer of 2023. I thought it would be part of a fall collection and ready in just a few weeks - the hubris!
As I started working on the piece, it quickly became clear that 1) I wasn’t going to be able to do this collection justice if I rushed it for a 2023 launch, 2) I had a solid idea for a collection but it wasn’t quite ready to emerge just yet, and 3) I had some growth that I needed to make as an artist before I would be ready to bring this collection into the world. I postponed my fall 2023 show and gave the collection some space.
Over a year later, I love the way this piece matured. It represents so many of the themes in this collection: change, movement, blooms, open horizons, and bright colors.

FAQS
//
Can I bid if I don’t intend to purchase? No. Each bid you make is a binding contract to buy the item if you win. Please see my Terms of Service for more information.
Can I retract a bid? You can only retract a bid under specific circumstances. For example, if you meant to bid $100.00 but accidentally bid $10,000, you can retract the bid. Even then, you need to bid the amount you originally intended immediately. Never use bid retraction to manipulate the bidding process. Contact joe@josephshook.com if you need to retract a bid.
Will my name and bid amounts remain anonymous during the auction? Your bid amount will display, but your name will remain anonymous. Only myself and my internal team will have access to your details once a bid is submitted.
